The Mountain Above Tokyo

The night after Grandma dies, the lid of the old well in the courtyard lifts. Out climb a patched paper lantern, a kettle on three crooked legs, two wooden sandals, a broom and a straw cloak. They bow to Grandma Sachi and disappear again.

Emi is twelve, comes from Hamburg and only believes what she can prove. But behind the well lies Yoimachi, a town made of old things that wakes every night and vanishes from every map at sunrise. Only Emi and Kai, the boy next door, still remember it in the morning.

Grandma protected the town ever since she was twelve herself. Now she is gone. And a single photo puts Yoimachi in danger.
